{"id":706,"date":"2012-03-02T08:24:43","date_gmt":"2012-03-02T13:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/garykahn.net\/yoga\/?p=706"},"modified":"2016-04-10T17:46:01","modified_gmt":"2016-04-10T21:46:01","slug":"be-yoga-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/garykahn.net\/yoga\/2012\/03\/be-yoga-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Yoga on the breath"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tammy,<\/p>\n<p>The other day you caught me grimacing during a pose and told me to breathe and smile.\u00a0 Why is breathing given such a big focus in yoga?<\/p>\n<p>When you&#8217;re concentrating on your breath, you fail to take life for granted.\u00a0 You fail to worry that you&#8217;re doing triangle pose wrong and you fail to care that your shorts are riding down and someone might see a small part of your butt.<\/p>\n<p>Right now I\u2019m in your level one class so I\u2019m just concentrating on achieving some semblance of the basic poses and simultaneously breathing smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>In the advanced yoga classes do they teach multi-tasking like breathing and thinking?\u00a0 How can I grow into a mature yogi if we continue to do the happy baby pose?\u00a0 Let\u2019s start practicing the snotty teenager pose; my sense of humor might fit in better.<\/p>\n<p>Is it possible we concentrate our thoughts on each breath so we live life in the moment, here and now?<\/p>\n<p>Gary Kahn<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tammy, The other day you caught me grimacing during a pose and told me to breathe and smile.\u00a0 Why is breathing given such a big focus in yoga?
